FIRST TO 120

Today we played FIRST TO 120. To play the game we used a 120 number grid, a 10 sided die and two counters. The aim was to be the first to get our counter on 120. We had to land exactly on that number. If we threw a 5, we had to go back 5 steps. If we rolled a 0 we missed a turn. This game helped us to add on numbers. For example if we were on 48 and threw a 7, instead on moving our counter one step at a time, we worked out in our head what 48 +7 = then moved to that space(55). We double checked with our partner. It was fun. Luke and Fraser were both on 119 at the same time. Luke managed to throw 1 first and won the game.

Rocket Race

For Maths this morning we played Rocket Race. We played against a partner and the aim of the game was to be the first to color in the rocket. We rolled three dice, added up the score and colored in the number on our rocket. This game helped us use our adding strategies. For example Daniel rolled 6,4 and 6. He then doubled the 6 to make 12 and added on the 4 to make 16. We realised some numbers were hard to get. 18 was difficult. Why?

Shearing video

This is a video of Doug shearing the sheep. He even let a couple of us have a go at using the shears. The wool was soft to touch.

Sammy the Kangaroo

As a special surprise, Alana brought to school Sammy the kangaroo which she is helping look after. Sammy is a female Eastern Grey kangaroo. She has to be bottle fed every two hours with a special milk formula. She has her own pretend pouch which she loves to snuggle into when she gets tired. She was very well behaved in our classroom and we all got to hold her.
What a week! First we had some lambs on Monday and now a kangaroo today. We wonder, "What's next?"

Fun With Sheep

After Doug and Steve had finished shearing the sheep, we were allowed to feel the wool and hold and feed the lambs. It was a sensational experience.

Shearing the Sheep

Today was our turn to present and item at assembly. We chose to do two rural songs- "She'll Be Right Mate" and "Bob the Kelpie".
After we performed our songs, Doug and Steven James who are farmers, shore two of their sheep in front of the whole school.Everyone was so excited watching the shearing. Here is a video of Doug doing the shearing.

Andy's bike riding adventure

Andy works at 15 Mile Creek camp. When we stayed out there, Andy took us mountain bike riding. We had so much fun. You can see our adventures on this blog in the June archive called "Wet and Muddy".
Andy came to school and did some bike ed. lessons with us which are also on our blog ( July -Bike Education). He showed us a movie he had made about him and a group of friends mountain bike riding in the bush near his home. We decided to put it on our blog to share with you.
Enjoy!

The Comeback Kid

On the weekend Mr Campbell made a come back to football. He hasn't played for a long time and decided to play for his old team Goorambat against Swanpool. He played full forward and kicked two goals. He helped his team win.
Mr Campbell is feeling sore today. He's glad it was the last game for the year.
We wonder if he is going to play next year.
Watch the video highlights. Mr Campbell is the big fella......number 24. Commentary by Molly and Melissa Campbell.

Riding on the oval

Today for Bike Ed, we practised our riding skills on the oval. We did some steering around witches hats, some stopping and scooting and practised our sharp turns and slow riding. We rode with our partners and in a large group around the course.

Friday the Thirteenth

Today is Friday the thirteenth.....Bad Luck Friday. We must be careful that nothing that can bring bad luck happens today, such as a black cat crossing our path, breaking a mirror, putting your left foot on the floor when you first get out of bed, walking under a ladder, spilling salt, opening an umbrella indoors, leaving your purse on the floor, seeing an owl in the daylight, dropping a knife and picking it up, and placing a hat on the bed. Has anything happened to us today?
We spilt our hot chocolate. (Charlotte, Jayden, Blake, Tahnee, Daniel L. Brandan, Brody)
I spilt my cereal. (Silvija)
I dropped a glass and it shattered. (Jarvis)
My cupboard fell out. (Daniel L)
I fell out of bed. (Blake)
It's my brother's birthday. (Lily)
A part of my bed broke. (Fraser)
My mice escaped. (Heather)
My dog did something terrible in my room.... twice! (Taylah)
My little sister woke me up early. (Brody)
My chain kept coming off my bike.(Jayden)
A bird pooped on my bike on the way to school this morning. (Bryn)
For Art we drew scary pictures. If you don't frighten easily, have a look at the slide show of our pictures. But remember, we did warn you!

Welcome Marlo

Something special happened to me on the weekend. I had a hair cut.
Wait a minute……there is something else! My mum had a baby named Marlo. She is a girl and is now 5 days old. She has blonde hair which if she is lucky will get a reddish tinge like mine when she gets older. When she was born her weight was 3 something. She is 45 centimeters long and has a very small head. We don’t know what color eyes she has because she won’t open them much to see. I think they are brown eyes. I think she is completely different from me except the only thing could be the eye rolling. She doesn’t have much hair yet and she does cry a lot.
She is coming home tonight. It will be her first car drive.
I have had 7 holds of her. She does cry a lot and I don’t like it when I hold her and she cries. It freaks me out.
Alan is her dad. She is my first and only sister. We don’t have a last or middle name for her yet.
That’s all about my sister Marlo!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday's bike Ed. Lesson

We had lots of fun doing our bike ed. lesson on Friday. Mr Campbell set up activities to practise doing tight turns, weaving and even riding amongst pedestrians. The kids who didn't have bikes acted as pedestrians and when we rode we had to be careful of them. Some of us even had to swerve to avoid a ball that bounced on our track.

How to Play Octopus

Most mornings for fitness we go out onto the netball courts to play our favorite game Octopus. We reckon it's a great game because we get fit playing it and we practise using our evasion skills (dodging, weaving, twisting, ducking, side stepping etc)which is important in lots of other games. We play the game by running across two netball courts. Each netball court is an ocean and has three sharks in it. The space between the two netball courts is a beach which has one or two crabs. The aim of the game is for the fish to run across both oceans without being tagged by a shark or crab. To start the game a shark calls a fish to cross the oceans then chases the fish in his/her ocean. If the fish is caught, he/she becomes an octopus. Octopuses can tig fish but have to stay in the spot where he/she got caught. They can only move their arms to tig. The crab can also tig the fish but only in the beach between the netball courts. Sharks have to stay in their own ocean. If the fish makes it across the oceans all the fish then run together across the oceans to the other side. Then a shark calls for another fish to cross. The game is over when all the fish are caught and become octopuses.

Weaving in the Art Room

During Art this morning we made frames using newspaper. We then weaved wool around the frame to make figures. It took a lot of concentration but in the end we were very proud of our "masterpieces".

Writing Session

Today we wrote a procedural text on how to play our favorite game "Octopus". In the video you will notice us doing things that good writers do, such as planning, writing, proof reading, editing, discussing etc. We are so proud of our work. We have also made a video of us playing "Octopus" and provided an explanation of how to play the game.
