Snapshot of our bicycle education lesson

Alana riding in a straight line

On Friday we went outside and practised our bike riding skills. One of the things we did was ride along the white line of the netball court. I tried my hardest to keep my tyres on the line by looking slightly ahead of my tyres. I think I did pretty well. You can check out my riding on the video.

Bike education

For the next four weeks we are practising our bike riding skills and learning how to be safe riders on the road. On Friday Andy, Faith and Sarah from 15 Mile Creek camp taught us the skills of riding in a straight line, safe braking and turning.A fun activity was the slow riding competition. We all lined up on one side of the netball court and rode across to the other side. The winner was the last person to cross over the line. We had to ride in a straight line, not put our feet on the ground or stop.It was a very close finish between Luke and Fraser. We had to look at the video to find the winner. Fraser won a drink bottle. Look at the video to see how close it was.
After our four weeks of practise we hope to ride along Wangaratta's bike paths.

Lili's horse

On the weekend Mum and I went horse riding. Mum rode a horse called Blaze and I was riding Monty. I might be getting him for Christmas and I can't wait! After I warmed Monty up I took him around the paddock. First I walked for 2 mins then I did a trot for 5 mins. I did a canter for 2 mins then I went for another little canter for about 30 seconds. After I went for that ride I went for a trail ride with Mum, Clinton and Kathleen. Kathleen rode Wally and Clinton rode Jimmy. I had to go right up ahead of them because horses like to bite little ponies. When we got back I unsaddled Monty and took him back to his paddock. When I did that Mum and I went home. I had so much fun.

Dress Ups

Each Friday, if we've had a terrific week of learning we are allowed to have bonus time. It's like free time when we can do anything we want (within reason). People like to play on the computer, do some drawing, read quietly, play U.N.O.etc. Last Friday several of us got to use the dress up box. We had lots of fun and giggled heaps of times. Have a look at our slide show to see how "beautiful" we looked.

Do I know My Left and Right?

For maths this week we have been practising using left and right directions and plotting a navigation path for our partner to follow. In the first video Daniel is giving directions for Jayden to follow. Jayden had to use normal walking steps and hopefully end up on the spot where he started. Watch the video and see if he was successful! In the second video Georgina and Silvija are planning together their path making sure their distances and right and left turns are correct. In the third video the girls are testing their plan. Were they successful?

Ban the Bikes!

Today we commenced our unit of work on argumentative texts. Our first article to analyse was Ban the Bikes and groups had to define what was the purpose of an argumentative text. Here are some of our groups at work!

Fraser's Cross Country

Yesterday I competed in the Victorian Primary Schools' Cross Country Championships. It was held at Bundoora Park in Melbourne. I had to run 2 kilometers. My time was 7 minutes and 10 seconds. I finished in 48th position out of 140. I was only 20 seconds from the winner. It was very close. I got a T shirt for competing.
On the way home I celebrated by having lunch at the Souvlaki Hut.

Countries around the World

During the holidays I decided to do some researching and find lots of overseas countries.I used my huge globe. I wrote down the names of the countries onto paper.

Finding information in the text!

Today in literacy we focussed on finding information in the text. We used our highlighters to show where this information was. It went very well!

Soccer at Lunch time

Yesterday at play time we picked two teams to play soccer. There were seven on each side. One team was called Paraguay and the other Brazil. We played on the oval. At half time the score was 5 to 4 Paraguay's way. The game resumed next play and the score was 7 to 8. Mathew thought the game was over and he picked up the ball. It wasn't over and a penalty was awarded to Paraguay. Jarvis kicked the goal to level the score 8 all. We had great fun.
We are playing again today.
